The primary function of this position is to provide Human Resources Generalist guidance, leadership, and expertise to all employees at the ArcelorMittal Marion and Shelby facilities with the overall mission of improving workforce effectiveness.   This position focuses on teamwork with a heavy emphasis toward fostering positive employee/labor relations with the Company’s represented workforce.  Further mission includes fostering change and taking a leadership role in employee development and counseling that helps guide employees to seek improvement. 

 POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:  Accountabilities detailed below performed at both the Shelby and Marion facilities unless noted otherwise.

  • HR Generalist  - Position accountable for providing direction and support to Company managers at the Shelby and Marion facilities relative to Human Resource Generalist responsibilities including but not limited to:  employee relations, employee coaching/counseling, disciplinary action, labor & employment law/compliance, selection/retention, policy administration, unemployment hearing administration, training and development.
    • Execute and perform other general duties and responsibilities requisite of a generalist employee in the Human Resources Department as assigned including participation with Health and Safety initiatives.
  • Labor Relations - Lead the Human Resources Department with labor relations’ efforts at the Marion and Shelby facilities by performing duties that will include, but not be limited to:  counsel on 1st and 2nd step grievance responses, handling 3rd step grievances and union contract interpretation.
  • This position is also accountable for addressing any issues relevant to a labor union and its represented members that includes but is not limited to: discipline, letters of agreements, arbitrations, settlement of low dollar grievances.  Position must gain Union leadership and rank and file acceptance in order to affect change and improve the workplace.
  • Worker’s Compensation - Manages the delivery of workers compensation claims.   Partners with department managers and third-party administrator to assist with cost containment of medical, indemnity and expense, ensure timely delivery of services to customers, and insure program compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. Services are delivered per documented contractual agreements, client service plans and/or insurance contract
    • Reviews all reports of employee accidents and oversees claims with the third-party administrator promptly, and contacts the appropriate departments and personnel as needed.  Develops/maintains related reports and sets appropriate standards while providing feedback to reporting agencies as required.

  • Requires at least five (5) years Human Resources Generalist experience.
  • Requires experience working in a labor relations environment, which includes responding to grievances (manufacturing environment preferred).
  • Requires experience managing Worker’s Compensation Claims.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and payroll administration preferred.
  • Requires broad training in fields such as Human Resources, operations and business administration, or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of a four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of experience and education.  Bachelor of Arts in a Human Resources field a plus with Human Resources certifications  preferred.
  • Must be organized, detailed orientated and self-directed.
  • Must be results orientated and possess superior problem solving and interpersonal skills. 
  • Position requires strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent proficiency in computer technologies including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
