ArcelorMittal Tubular Products (AMTP) in Shelby, Ohio produces welded and seamless precision tubes in a wide spectrum of carbon and alloy grades and offers one of the most extensive size ranges in the world. Our tubular products serve a variety of markets including automotive, industrial and construction equipment, hydraulic cylinders, agricultural equipment, and mineral mining equipment. 

Your role

The Health & Safety Technician will report to the Health & Safety Superintendent and be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs, policies, and procedures that protect employees, equipment, and the environment. By identifying potential hazards, conducting routine inspections, and promoting a culture of safety awareness, plays a critical role in minimizing workplace incidents and ensuring adherence to ISO 45001 requirements and ArcelorMittal Corporate FPS standards. Directly supports operational efficiency and employee well-being, enabling the facility to meet production goals while maintaining the highest standards of occupational health and safety.

Main tasks of the Health & Safety Technician-

- Conduct routine shop floor inspections for housekeeping, PPE compliance, and equipment checks.
- Conduct daily shop floor walkthroughs to identify and correct unsafe behaviors and conditions.
- Act as a visible and proactive safety presence during high-risk activities (e.g., confined space, hot work, working at heights, etc.).
- Facilitate and organize emergency drills (fire, evacuation, tornado, and FPS Drill response) and maintain readiness kits (First Responder Bags).
- Support implementation of risk controls as directed by HS Superintendent or HS Specialists.
- Assist HS Department and Operations to ensure the JSA’s (Job Safety Analysis), Risk Assessments, and LOTO Placards are being maintained,
reviewed, updated as needed to ensure consistency plant wide.
- Assists with the inspection of work areas and equipment to ensure regulatory compliance. Provides project management support to the Health and
Safety department and other technical representatives in the areas of health and safety.
- Assist in preliminary incident investigations, evidence gathering, and report drafting.
- Ensure availability, proper use, and condition of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety-related tools.
- Support onboarding of new hires or contractors by reviewing basic safety requirements and expectations.
- Provide safety support to departments, maintenance, and contractors.
- Participate in internal and external ISO 45001 audits and awareness training programs.
- Promote a positive safety culture through daily interactions and engagement with shop floor employees.
- Assist in root cause investigations of near-misses and incidents.
- Maintain and calibrate safety-related equipment including gas detectors and fall protection equipment.
- Maintain/schedule required regulatory inspections related to departmental and site emergency response equipment (Lifeline inspections).
- Support toolbox talks, safety meetings, and on-the-spot coaching.
- Participate in EPT teams and meetings.
- Attend Safety Committee meetings, assist with Safety Day and Health Week activities, and assist the Health and Safety department when needed.
- Other duties as assigned by Health, Safety, and Site Security Superintendent.

What we’re looking for

  • High school diploma or GED required. 3-5 years relevant experience in Tube Manufacturing Process preferred. Additional certifications are considered an asset (OSHA 10/30, First Aid/AED/CPR).
  • Strong understanding of OSHA and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Industrial knowledge of processes and/or equipment, related hazards, and mitigation strategies. 
  • Ability and desire to obtain continued education, certification, and training. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, Power Point, Access).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal experience. 
  • Strong verbal, written, and persuasive skills.
  • Ability to competently handle a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership, confidence, and fosters positive relationships.
  • Willing and able to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Ability to travel to support learning initiatives.
