Quality Technician (NDT Operator) reporting to the Quality Support NDT Engineer is responsible for determining the weld quality of the tubing on the weld mill and make reported decisions based on his/her evaluations as to whether material should be further processed or scrapped. The incumbent in this position must be willing to work any of the off shift.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Operating and calibrating an Ultrasonic Testing unit
  • Cutting samples and completing destructive flat tests to classify defects and weld quality.
  • Interact/coordinate with the manufacturing supervision and production employees, process engineers and other quality support/metallurgical personnel.
  • Basic skills in electronics and mechanics highly desirable.
  • Background and experience in a manufacturing environment requested, preferably in a mechanical steel tube industry.
  • An understanding of ultrasonic testing and weld quality evaluations beneficial.
  • Individual will be a self-starter and capable of working independently
  • Possess effective communication and team-oriented problem solving and decision-making skills.

Other important details
The position requires the candidate to be on their feet for most of the shift. The candidate must possess the physical ability climb stairs and move between the various pieces of equipment they are responsible to operate. This distance can be up to 300’ or more. The candidate must be able to maneuver heavy tubing into the flat-test press, which also requires two-hand operation through palm buttons. The candidate must be able to lift up to approximately 40 pounds (flat test samples) and possess the ability to hear and speak clearly over the plant radio and intercom systems.
