Full Job Description

The Facility Engineer is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure and equipment of buildings and facilities. They perform analyses of operational processes, resource allocation, energy use, and safety processes, and recommend and implement improvements. The Facility Engineer will have direct responsibility for a range of facility infrastructure needs – such as HVAC, Air Compressors, Boilers, Combustion Furnaces, DX Generators, Overhead Cranes, Waste Treatment Plant, maintenance, and civil engineering.

Position Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of energy-burning systems.
  • Control of the rate and uniformity of heat transference
  • Expertise in combustion supervision and management
  • Installation and maintenance of combustion equipment
  • Field troubleshooting as required
  • Perform field data collections to obtain the details required for design or analysis
  • Specify materials, testing requirements, and equipment
  • Analyze gearing, shafting, framework, wheel assemblies and drums on overhead traveling cranes
  • Survey crane runway systems for elevation and alignment compliance and recommended repairs
  • Perform facility inspections and report on condition affecting operations
  • Review and understand equipment and methods of operation

Education/Skill Requirements 

  • Organizational skills – Prioritization, budgetary responsibilities, and time management are all key
  • Attention to detail – maximize efficiency and maintain safety standards and ability to notice the smallest of areas where improvements could be made
  • Critical thinking – troubleshoot problems and consider a range of potential fixes or improvements
  • Communication skills – interaction with colleagues across the facility, routine reporting to management.
    Written and verbal communication skills are both extremely important
  • Calm under pressure – needs to be able to make well-informed and considered decisions in times of extreme pressure, could be a key decision maker in emergency or time-critical situations
  • AutoCad and/or Inventor experience is a necessity
  • Knowledge of AISC, AIST, AWS, concrete and mill building specifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering required
