Summertime Ball Games and Thrill Rides - ArcelorMittal

Summertime Ball Games and Thrill Rides

August 31, 2023

ArcelorMittal Shelby and Marion employees had a chance to pack up and let loose this summer all across the great state of Ohio.

On July 8th, Shelby employees chose between a thrilling day riding coasters at Cedar Point or a hands-on afternoon at the ballpark watching the Cleveland Guardians. Marion employees headed south to spend a day at the park with the Columbus Clippers.

Unique Opportunities at Cleveland Guardians Game

The ArcelorMittal crew made the most of a rain delay, staying (mostly) dry and enjoying ballpark food at the Carnegie Tent inside Progressive Field.

Once the weather cleared, several ArcelorMittal employees had the opportunity to participate in some unique festivities.

A perfect ceremonial first pitch was thrown from the mound by Jim Thomas from the Traffic Department.

Matt Pagani from Plant #2 sang a remarkable rendition of the National Anthem, and warehouse employee Greg Richter delivered the game ball.

Other employees and family members joined in throughout the rest of the game in special activities, including “spot the cow,” hold the finish line-hot dog race, and the Ohio scoreboard experience.

To top it all off, Cleveland brought home a solid win, finishing 10-6 over the Kansas City Royals.

"Please extend my absolute gratitude for the opportunity of a lifetime at Saturday’s game. Not sure who needs to see or hear it but that was absolutely amazing, and I am grateful for the meal, tickets, and of course the tossing of the first pitch,” said Jim Thomas.

The whole ArcelorMittal crew is grateful to Ashley Canfield, our Executive Assistant & Communications Coordinator  and the rest of the folks who made the Guardians outing such a hit.

A Special Day on Ohio's Roller Coasters

ArcelorMittal employees who weren’t as interested in baseball could choose to go to Cedar Point on one of four dates, having a Magnum-ificent experience, while en-Raptor-ed by the bright landscaping and delicious treats.

When it comes to fun, Shelby employees are ready to deliver. The team went above-and-beyond, donating Cedar Point tickets to a local Shelby school district so a group of MH and Intervention students could enjoy a day in the park.

Scott Rose, a supervisor from Plant #2 traveled to Cedar Point to assist with the trip. All the students and aides enjoyed a full day at the park provided to them at no cost.

Food, Fireworks, and Prizes at the Columbus Clippers Game

Employees and their families from ArcelorMittal Marion who attended the Columbus Clippers game enjoyed a full buffet and a drawstring backpack full of goodies prior to the game. They also had the opportunity to win several exciting door prizes, including gift cards, tool kits, a portable grill, and a 55” smart TV.

Everyone stayed for a fabulous fireworks show over the ball field after the game.

Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator Bill Berry and his wife brought three of their grandkids to the Clippers game for the company outing.

“The two grandsons were excited about being at the game and wanted to catch a foul ball,” Berry said. “My granddaughter, on the other hand, was very concerned about getting cotton candy and where the mascots were so they didn’t scare the boys. Great time had by all! Thank you AM Marion!!”
